Week 7 gave us a thriller up in the Blue Water Area Conference, as our undefeated Almont (7-0) survived a one-point classic over newcomer Macomb Lutheran North, 28-27, to clinch at least a share of the league title. Lutheran North (6-1) made a real run in its first season after coming over from the Catholic High School League, and they pushed the Raiders to the final whistle. Think about what Almont has built here: 30 straight BWAC wins, and a chance this week against Croswell-Lexington to lock down a fourth straight outright championship. That is the kind of dominance that quiets any doubters. Elsewhere around the state, Detroit Catholic Central (7-0) clawed back from a 14-point fourth-quarter hole to top Orchard Lake St. Mary's 27-20, with Gideon Gash scoring twice in the final frame and Ryan Jaafar punching in a 4-yard game-winner with 10 seconds to play. And Howell (7-0) edged rival Brighton 14-13 for a share of the KLAA Gold.
