There's a fresh spring in the step of our Detroit Cass Tech faithful this week, and it's easy to see why: junior quarterback Donald Tabron, one of the top recruits in the country in the Class of 2028, committed to Texas A&M on Saturday. The 6-foot-3 right-handed thrower who wore number 8 was the starter when the Technicians won the Division 1 championship as a freshman, and now he's got a college home locked up. Make no mistake — this is a kid who delivers. Tabron finished 15 of 20 passing with three touchdowns, and last year he had Cass Tech unbeaten right up until a heartbreaking loss to Detroit Catholic Central in the title game. That's the score he's carrying into this fall. With 602 varsity football teams scheduled to begin practices Monday and Cass Tech's wake-up call coming about 4 p.m., the Technicians open a new chapter with their driver back under center. C.J. Sadler, a Mr. Football winner, has graduated, so the load falls squarely on Tabron. He's ready for it.
