The Lions dropped the preseason opener in Cincinnati, 16-14, and while nobody's losing sleep over an August result, there's plenty to chew on! Dan Campbell rested most of his key men, sitting Jared Goff, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Aidan Hutchinson, so this was a night for the young guys to show us something. Undrafted rookie Luke Altmyer took most of the snaps and went 13 of 22 for 130 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions — flashes of promise, but three total turnovers is how you lose a game you could've won. Jake Bates gave us a pair of first-half field goals, and Altmyer directed a gutsy 12-plus play, 80-yard drive late, capping it with a 24-yard strike to Tarik Black and a 2-point keeper to pull within 16-14. Cincinnati recovered the onside kick and it was over. Joe Flacco threw the touchdown in relief of Joe Burrow, and Evan McPherson booted three field goals, including one from 56. Next up: we host Washington on Aug. 22.
