DeBrincat Locks In Long-Term as Red Wings Land Seven-Year Extension!

The news we needed in a rough stretch: Alex DeBrincat and our Red Wings are finalizing a seven-year extension worth $13 million annually, and it's a massive win for interim GM Shawn Horcoff. Horcoff — handed the authority by ownership to make deals — got our 28-year-old sniper signed through his prime, and with the new collective bargaining agreement capping terms at seven years, this is as long as it gets. Make no mistake about the man we're keeping. DeBrincat is in his 10th season with 296 goals and 600 points, he's played a full 82 games each of the past five years, and he leads the team with eight points already — including two goals and an assist in Monday's 5-4 home loss to the Devils in the Frozen Frenzy opener. It hasn't been pretty around here. We sit last in the Atlantic at 1-3-2, Simon Edvinsson remains unsigned and away from the team, and Horcoff is juggling a trade request from former captain Dylan Larkin. Locking up DeBrincat is the kind of anchor this roster needed.
