Dobbs Gets the Nod Saturday as O'Neill Keeps Making Plays at Camp Day 16

Day 16 down in Allen Park, and while Thursday was a lighter hour in shells — red zone, special teams, a few situations before Friday's walkthrough — the storylines out of the Meijer Performance Center keep stacking up ahead of preseason game No. 2 against Washington on Saturday. Jared Goff won't play, so veteran Josh Dobbs draws the start as he and rookie Luke Altmyer battle to back him up. Dobbs made his one team-period snap count Thursday, dropping a touchdown pass to Jackson Meeks — the receiver-turned-tight-end trying to carve out room behind Sam LaPorta, Brock Wright, and Tyler Conklin. And keep your eye on undrafted rookie Eric O'Neill, the guy who hit Joe Burrow into an incompletion and a punt in the opener and grabbed a pick-six off Altmyer on Tuesday. Dan Campbell says O'Neill is a "guy that makes plays every day." That's how you stick. Two somber notes: Jimmy Rolder's hamstring likely keeps him out next week, though there's optimism for Week 1 against New Orleans, and Ennis Rakestraw Jr. left with a lower leg injury.
