Red Wings Search for a New GM as Yzerman Steps Aside

So the news is out, Red Wings faithful, and it's the kind of thing that stops you cold: three weeks ago Steve Yzerman announced he was stepping down as our general manager and moving into an advisory role. The Captain, handing off the keys. Now the front office has interviewed a variety of candidates but has yet to pick the man who takes the wheel. Two names carry real weight — Brendan Shanahan, fresh off an 11-year run leading the Toronto Maple Leafs, and Darren Yorke, who's spent the last several years helping build the Carolina Hurricanes and even ran their AHL affiliate. As Yorke put it back in 2024, he's worn a lot of different hats to see every viewpoint before a decision. And whoever lands here faces the clock immediately: re-sign Simon Edvinsson, resolve the Dylan Larkin trade request, and finalize the roster in roughly six weeks. Six weeks to reshape our team. So what to do first? Keep Larkin or move him? These are the calls that define an era.
