Red Wings Set 23-Man Roster Amid the Noise as Rangers Loom Friday

Nobody said this camp would be quiet, and it wasn't. Dylan Larkin submitted an unresolved trade request and got hurt days before camp began, Simon Edvinsson remained an unsigned restricted free agent, and Shawn Horcoff stepped in as interim general manager days before the preseason started — replacing Steve Yzerman, who was removed from the post back in mid-July. That's a lot of weather for one locker room. And yet the roster is set. The Wings put in a 23-man group before Monday's 5 p.m. deadline, carrying 14 forwards and seven defensemen, with the option to go 13 and eight. Larkin (upper-body) is on the roster and has been practicing since late last week, and no trade of our captain is expected anytime soon. Edvinsson attended camp and took part in drills, though his nameplate was gone from the locker room Monday. Moritz Seider feels this group can end the organization's 10-year playoff drought. The regular season answers the first question Friday, Oct. 2, against the New York Rangers.
