River Ryan Headlines Tigers' September Callup Watch as Rosters Expand

September brings roster expansion in Major League Baseball, and the Tigers have a name worth watching as rosters climb from 26 to 28 in less than two weeks. Meet River Ryan — DET No. 4, MLB No. 66 — the arm we brought back from the Dodgers as part of the return for Tarik Skubal, and let's be honest, any piece of that trade carries weight around here. The 28-year-old can touch triple digits with his fastball, and that alone gives us something to dream on! For now he's sidelined with a hamstring injury, and the road hasn't been kind — Tommy John surgery back in August 2024 sits in the rearview. It's the same recovery grind Jackson Jobe walked before he was added to our rotation coming off his own Tommy John. There are fewer than 45 days left in the regular season, and any player called up now keeps his prospect eligibility intact — so the door is open. Whether Ryan gets healthy in time is the question we'll be asking.
