Tigers Finally Break Through, Down Cleveland 6-4 at Comerica

We finally did it! After starting 0-6 against the Guardians this year — a four-game sweep in May and both ends of a June series — our Tigers got by Cleveland 6-4 Tuesday night in front of 30,709 at Comerica Park, and it feels like a monkey off our backs. Kevin McGonigle was the man of the night, driving in three runs, including a two-run double in the fifth. Spencer Torkelson opened the scoring with a second-inning double, and Gleyber Torres chipped in an RBI single as we built the cushion. Drew Anderson tossed four innings of one-run ball in his fourth start of the year, and Jacob Waguespack threw two scoreless frames of relief to grab the win. Kenley Jansen slammed the door for his 14th save. And here's what really matters: we sit 1 1/2 games ahead of the Guardians in the AL Central. The rubber matters keep coming — Tigers lefty Framber Valdez takes the ball Wednesday against Cleveland's Foster Griffin, with Detroit up 1-0 in the series.
