Ten straight seasons without playoff hockey, and the offseason has only tightened the knot around our beloved Red Wings. We let go of Patrick Kane and Steve Yzerman, we traded away goaltender Sebastian Cossa, and now the ceiling feels lower than it has in a decade. The gut-punch: our captain, Dylan Larkin, requested a trade — and he's already named the Minnesota Wild, the Vegas Golden Knights, and the Florida Panthers as places he'd go, later adding the Dallas Stars to that list. As of this writing we have no one in the President of Hockey Operations or General Manager chair to steer us through it. We already shipped our 2026 first-round pick for Justin Faulk, which turned into the No. 15 overall pick and Nikita Klepov, so the cupboard is thinner than we'd like. The one thing keeping the lights on: Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond are locked down on long-term deals. Those two are the foundation we build back from.
