There was no quit in our battling Spartans on Saturday, but the math turned cruel at the end. Jackson Kleather booted a 34-yard field goal with 2 seconds left, and Northwestern walked out of East Lansing with a 24-21 win that we'll be stewing over for a while. And of course it was Aidan Chiles twisting the knife — the quarterback who started 20 games here before transferring, tying it at 21 on a 1-yard run and finding Alex Honig on the 2-point conversion, then driving the Wildcats 64 yards in eight plays to set up the winner. Our defense gave everything it had: five sacks for minus-35 yards and 10 tackles for a loss of 43, all while missing its top three inside linebackers and top three corners. Alessio Milivojevic kept us in it, throwing for 216 yards and two scores, including a 53-yarder to Chrishon McCray. But a blocked Liam Boyd field goal sealed it, and the losing streak stretches to four. We sit 2-5, 0-4 in the Big Ten, and now travel to UCLA on Oct. 24.
